Café Yaxha
In December 2003, German architect Dieter Richter, collaborator of the biggest scientific and multidisciplinary project of the Mayan world, the Cultural Triangle Yaxha, Nakum, Naranjo, created this cosy café and restaurant for people interested in the Mayan culture. In summer 2006, German international business assistant, Anne Weirauch, joined forces to help spread her enthusiasm for the Mayans and to work to protect Mayan sites in the Petén.
At Café Arqueológico Yaxha, we introduce interested people to the culture of the ancient Mayans using old and new photos of different archaeological sites, books and maps, and unique slide shows. Through our scientific tours, which aim to protect Mayan sites in the Petén, we provide visitors the unparalleled opportunity to gain insight in running scientific projects.
We serve international dishes as well as a variety of pre-Hispanic dishes, created in cooperation with Mayans who still preserve their old traditions. Our ingredients have been used by Mayans in their daily lives for hundreds of years and continue to flourish in this region today.
